What Our Customers Have to Say Anout Their Experience at the Sloop Inn

"This review is of the restaurant, not the accommodations.
The restaurant at Tintern Abbey was closed when we were visiting so we went in search of food elsewhere. Luckily we ended up at The Sloop Inn. We were traveling with our dog and one of the things we were looking for was a place that would welcome her too. It was a chilly day so a place that would allow us to be inside and warm while we enjoyed our meal was most appealing.

The decor is fairly plain. It appears to be more a pub that serves food than a restaurant. Don't let that put you off. I didn't harbor high hopes that the food would be all that great. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. The menu is small but they also have daily specials. Every dish we ordered was fantastic.

From our one visit I can highly recommend the Burgers - piled high with onion rings and served with hand cut chunky chips, the gammon and eggs, the lasagna and stuffed chicken breast with mushroom sauce and chips. The onion rings and chips at this restaurant/pub are what every other establishment should strive for!

The Sloop offers great value for a quality home cooked meal. We look forward to visiting again on our next visit to Wales. "

"We will be going back! Beautiful location great food and really friendly staff. The bed was a bit squeeky so we will be opting for the 4 poster next time. Breakfast was traditional and really good lot's of beautiful things to see near by we went tintern abbey and Monmouth for the day. "

"We visited the pub twice whilst staying in a nearby cottage over the weekend.

The pub is dog friendly, dogs are allowed in the bar area (not in the lounge) but the bar area is spacious, comfortable and you can also eat in there. There is also a nice spacious beer garden, with patio & benches and a grassy area.

The owners and locals were warm and friendly. Talked to us about the area, where we were staying etc.

We had a couple of drinks in there on a Saturday afternoon and then went back for dinner in the evening. Menu is varied and good old fashioned pub grub, but cooked very well. i.e surf and turf, hunters chicken, steak etc.

We both enjoyed our meals and the prices were reasonable. If in the area we would certainly return again for a drink or some food. "

"ust got back from 3 nights at the Sloop Inn and can report on a good weekend. Peter and his staff made us very welcome and the food was really excellent in all respects. Our room was a little tired and old fashioned but in some way that added to the charm of the Inn. There was plenty of very hot water and the facilities perfectly adequate, if not luxurious and the stay was good value.

The location and surrounding area is stunningly beautiful and there is lots to see if you like the outdoors and particularly walking/exploring. The Sloop is right on the river and there is easy access to all the main beauty spots and historic sights etc. Good PUB accommodation in cracking location, if you want the Ritz go somewhere else but take a bigger wallet.
